I’ll try to make a speech like the one I saw yesterday in「Logical Expression Ⅰ」.Shakila, please check, eye contact, volume, pronunciation and content.
I’d like to introduce you to ALT Shakila Maynard.
She came to Japan from Barbados, an island country in the Caribbian of Central America, in July twenty nineteen. And she spent four years here in Unnan city.
During that time, she was able to attend classes at Kakeya Branch school, Daito High School, Iinan High School, with our school as their base school.
I was involved with Shakila for four years.
In our classes, we learned a lot about Barbados culture, which was not very familiar in Japan, such as cooking Bajan foods and playing road tennis, which is the national sport of Barbados.
I remember now that you worked so hard to get your driver’s licence, and drove carefully on snowy roads, and you completely protected youself against the cold in winter.
During your four years in Japan, the COVID situation prevented you from returning to Barbados. During that time, you were separated from your granma, and I think you were feeling lonely.
After returning to your country, you will spend a relaxing time in your hometown, won’t you.
「This is my favorite nepew.」 The smile on your face when you showed me the picture looked very happy.Plese spend time in your country, Barbados, as a true cheerful Shakila.
I’ts time to say …. I won’t say good-bye. I’m looking forward to seeing you someday somewhere. See you!

【Shakila(シャキラ)先生から】
4 years ago when I arrived in Mitoya. I didn’t know how fortunate I was.I also had no idea that it would become very difficult to say good-bye.
Over four years I have met a lot of amazing people. These people made adjusting to life in Japan easier. They were willing to show me the best parts of Shimane and made sure I was alright during my dark times. Some of them may not be here today but each one of them has left an impression on me.
Did you know that the best part of Shimane is its amazing people? They’re genuinely friendly.
They share what they have with everyone and most importantly, they can make a stranger, for from their homeland, feel right at home amongst them for that, I think you.
Thank you for accepting me and my culture. Thank you for making my time in Japan unforgetable.
I’ll carry the memories of Mitoya High School with me for as long as I live.
